The Mayor's Office
Welcome to the City of Charleston, South Carolina web site. For those of you who live in our metropolitan area, we hope this information will help you when you need the services of the City of Charleston.

In addition to the macro management of the City’s departments and divisions, the Mayor’s Office focuses on the major issues that affect the Charleston area and its citizens. Education, opportunity, communication and planning continue to be priorities of the Office.

In 2003, the Mayor’s Office actively promoted the Save Our Schools Program during the summer, and the First Day Festival to create excitement around the first day of school and encourage parent participation. The Mayor’s Office also plays an integral role in coordinating the planning efforts for the new $300 million hospital and campus for the Medical University of South Carolina, the early planning for a biotech center in association with MUSC, the opening of the Charleston School of Law, the recruitment of a new culinary school that will include other educational disciplines not available in Charleston, and the development of the International Museum of African-American History.

Additionally, the Mayor’s Office has given special attention to the ½-cent sales tax referendum and stabilization of the CARTA bus system. These challenges, along with the future Base Realignment Commission review of military installations, and the growth of the Charleston region highlight the need for continued regional communication and planning.
