Start Smart PLAYTIME Children will burn off some energy in this mini sports program. Game stations are set up so that children can try different activities at their own pace. Their will be bowling stations, target throwing stations, basketball stations, golf stations, soccer & more!


The outside of Hazel Parker includes a newly refurbished playground with several play areas, dog run, basketball court, tennis court, and lots of green space for children to run and play. The indoors, renovated druing late 2008, includes several multipurpose rooms which often hold programs.

Registration ends 1 week prior to the each programs’ start date. The decision to cancel a class due to low enrollment is usually made the week before the session begins. Registering late may mean the class had already been cancelled.


Youth Programs

Tumbling
Learn basic gymnastics and tumbling moves while improving strength, flexibility and coordination.
Date: 6 week session starting Wednesday, March 24th

Youth Fishing Program
Come out and fish the beautiful waters of the Charleston Harbor with Ms. Crystal while learning fishing skills and aquatic education. This 6 week program will cover casting, knot tying, fish identification; ethics, regulations and water safety.
Date: 6 week session starting Monday, March 22nd
Time: 4-5pm
Age: 6-10
Cost: $20
* Poles, bait and equipment will all be provided.

Ballet
Children will be learning ballet steps and their correct terminology as well as exploring movement to enhance creativity, individuality, and confidence. In a typical class we will start with warm-ups, move on to ballet technique, and then finish the class with improvisation and movement-related games.
Date: 6 week session starting Thursday, March 11th
Time: 3:30pm-4:15pm and 4:15pm-4:30pm

Painting the Masters
Hazel Parker Playground has partnered with the Gibbes Museum of art to offer an art history based acrylic painting class for children with an emphasis on the Gibbes’ Collection.
Date: 6 Sessions: Tuesday, March 9, 16, 23, April 13, 20, 27
Time: 4:15pm - 5:15pm
Age: 1st through 4th graders
Cost: $115 for 6 week session (Gibbes member receive 10% off).
*Includes all supplies.

Micro Sports
Micro Sports is a non-competitive introduction to youth sports that help children 4-6 years of age learn the basic skills and rules of each sport.
Date: Tuesdays and Thursdays for the months of April and May. Each month will be a designated sport. Sports are still being determined by coaches.

Suzuki Violin
The Suzuki method, especially designed for the very young beginner, encourages the child to listen and imitate sounds just as we learn to speak. Beginning at age 3, students play on miniature violins. A performance ends the semester! Traditional violin lessons are also available for the older child through adult. Beginner & Advanced.
Date: 7 sessions starting Monday, April 5th

Kindermusik Sign and Sing
We give parents the tools and knowledge to communicate with their babies using American Sign Language. Through songs and play, both parents and babies learn signs for words like “mommy” and “eat,” and as well as practical signs like “more,” “milk,” and when he’s/she’s “all done.” This research-proven signing class for hearing children speeds language development, eases frustration, and enhances long-term learning abilities

Petite Protocol Summer 2010 Camp by Southern Protocol
Camp includes all supplies, afternoon snack, interactive and fun manners lessons that build self-esteem and self-confidence. We will cover proper introductions, body language, sending invitations, responding and writing a perfect thank you note, party manners, sportsmanship, phone/technology manners, and table manners including Continental vs. American style's of eating. Each day is filled with arts and crafts and games as we navigate both proper social skills and technical etiquette!

21st Century Fitness: Beyond Pilates
A Pilates based formula of exercise to get in shape, maintain fitness and stay young at any age. For Beginners or Advanced, Young or Mature, the Fit or Unfit. Positions are modified to your fitness level.
Dates and Times: Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am to 9:45am. Choose a schedule that works for you!

PERFORMING ARTS “SAMPLER” CAMP: Suzuki Violin, Piano and Musical Theatre
Spark your child's curiosity in the performing arts with this camp that enables your child to experience the fun of all three programs. A miniature violin will be provided each day that is just your child's size! Learn to play your first piano piece, have fun in a hand bell choir, then let imaginations run wild with "Rumbles in the Jungle" and a house full of "Critter Sitters" in Musical Theatre. Students will develop spatial, sequential, cooperative, and creative skills using music, movement, and interpretive drama. A performance ends the week!
Date and Times: June 14-18, 1-2:30 (age 4-5), 2:45-4:15 (age 6-8)

Activities include: Fun music theory and theatre games, hand bell choir, playing rhythm instruments, and basic skills for piano and voice.

SHAG DANCE CAMP
Learn South Carolina’s state dance with your child or improve your favorite shag steps with an adult partner in a fun and engaging atmosphere.

KINDERMUSIK’s “ABC Music and Me”

ADVERNTURES IN THEATER CAMP!
Actors’ Theatre of South Carolina is known for training professional actors of all ages and producing excellent theater and films. Staff Member, Tyler Ilgen will take students on a week-long journey through a basic understanding of acting and stagecraft including stage presence, movement, learning a short speech and scene, vocal production, use of costumes, props and sets. For the last class, parents are invited to see a short performance with excerpts from “Wind in the Willows”, “Chronicles of Narnia” or other fine literature.

MAKE A MOVIE! AT MOVIE CAMP!
The film division of Actors’ Theatre of South Carolina has produced a multiple award-winning feature film, ALL FOR LIBERTY, which has been picked up for world distribution. The Film’s assistant director, Tyler Ilgen will teach basic skills for actors in front of the camera and crew members behind the camera. The class will shoot a short film in the course of the week.

TOUR DE FRANCE
Come take a tour de France learning about sights, sounds and even tastes of France! We’ll be following the route of the famous bicycle race, la Tour de France, talking about famous cities, monuments and artists, ending in Paris with a food tasting day! Each day we will play games with new vocabulary and create our own masterpiece based on the artists discussed that day! Although this course focuses on French culture, basic conversational French will be taught over the course of the unit including how to say hello, goodbye, how are you, my name is, numbers and colors.

FRANCE IN A SUITCASE!
Learn about French culture and Language through the use of games, songs, arts and crafts, pictures and much more! Children will learn about France, the French flag, where French is spoken around the world, the French game Boules, French artists, and French food! Children will make their own Monet Watercolors and we will even get to eat some French food on the last day of camp. Although this course focuses on French culture, basic conversational French will be taught over the course of the unit including how to say hello, goodbye, how are you, my name is, numbers and colors.
