Johns Island Code
Zoning on Johns Island is about to change. A new Johns Island Code is being developed to serve the unique characteristics of the area within the Urban Growth Boundary. The code will reflect recommendations made in the 2007 Johns Island Community Plan and will guide future development patterns.The process of developing the new Johns Island Code began with the selection of a team of consultants with a diversity of backgrounds and significant experience in developing SmartCode. The team of TPUCD (Town Planning & Urban Design Collaborative) will guide us through the several month process of creating a code from concept to final document.
The public process begins with a week-long "charrette" in which all stakeholders are invited to participate. The week opens with a presentation of goals, expectations and a detailed overview of the process and ends with a presentation of the vision, ideas and concepts that will go into developing the new code. The format of the public workshops during the week is open and allows anyone with an idea or comment to be included in the process. The schedule for the public workshops is below (or see attached):
