The City of Charleston's Department of Planning, Preservation, and Sustainabilty recently completed a special area master plan for the Calhoum Street-East/Cooper River Waterfront Area of the City.

The City of Charleston and Charleston County are studying the Maybank Highway corridor for potential roadway improvements that would be a departure from the typical street widening solutions of the past.

In 2003 the City worked with residents and other stakeholders on a plan forthe Charleston Neck area. Using this plan as a guide, the developers of Magnolia created a conceptual development plan. Click the Link below to view this plan.

Through the thoughtful work of residents and businesspersons, the City’s planning department and Urban Strategies, Inc, the first plan for downtown Charleston as a whole was adopted in 1999.

In 1997, the City of Charleston held a workshop for residents, businesses, and institutions in the area along Spring and Cannon Streets, which resulted in the Spring Cannon Corridor Plan that was adopted by City Council in 1998.

In January 2001 the South Carolina Department of Transportation - at the request of the City and CHATS (Charleston Area Transportation Study) committee - conducted a charrette to plan improvements for the Glenn McConnell Parkway and Bees Ferry Road intersection.

In December, 2001 residents came together to plan the repair of a reviving part of the city - the Upper Concord Street Neighborhood.

Students at Rivers Middle School are working with the City's Department of Housing and Community Development to fix up dilapidated homes and clean up vacant lots around the school.
