The Citizens' Training Academy is a series of six Tuesday-night sessions, 6:30-9pm, designed to educate citizens on the workings of the Police Department and in Crime Prevention/Crime Watch topics. This season's Academy will have NEW content including a presentation of the child protection program from Darkness to Light; a program about recognizing and preventing potential workplace violence and surviving an "active-shooter" situation; as well as learning to recognize drug use and gang activity in teens; and protecting yourself and your children from internet predators, identity theft and fraud. Participants will be offered the opportunity to do on-duty patrol ride-alongs, and experience first-hand the decision-making process and aftermath of a police use-of-force situation in the VIRTRA Firearms Training Simulator. A CPR Course will also be offered. Registration may be done by simply calling the Crime Prevention office (769-7407)- leave your name, and phone number on the message to be contacted.
