How do I get a Chauffeur’s License?
NEW 2010 Information:
From Jan. 1- Feb. 4, 2010 we will process applications on Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 2:00pm. Beginning Feb 9, 2010 we will process applications on Tuesday and Thursdays between the hours of 8am-3pm.
Due to staffing changes in the Traffic Office, the Taxi Cab inspections are held once a week on Tuesday afternoons from 1400-1600 hours. They no longer have inspections 4 times per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays-morning and afternoon) as in the past. Please note this change.

Effective January 01, 2008 the Taxicab/Chauffeur’s License process has changed. The City of Charleston Police Department requires applicants to submit the following:
1) A medical statement completed by your physician within thirty days of your submission of your application.
2) A criminal records check through the S. C. Law Enforcement Division. WE WILL NO LONGER ACCEPT SLED CHECKS OBTAINED ON-LINE.
3) A ten year driving record from the S. C. Division of Motor Vehicles.
