Keep Charleston Beautiful's mission has three main components: public awareness, education, and community involvement (cleanup & beautification events).

Today, Keep Charleston Beautiful, formerly the Clean City Commission, focuses on preventing litter before it happens. But historically, the Commission worked to reform sanitation ordinances, create an environmental court, and to coordinate huge litter cleanups.
