City Gallery at Waterfront Park
34 Prioleau Street, Charleston, SC 29401

The City Gallery at Waterfront Park is a venue for artwork that is new, vital, and innovative – with a focus on broadening the Charleston art outlook. This gallery aims to do for fine arts in Charleston what Spoleto Festival USA and Piccolo Spoleto have achieved for performing arts.

Hours of Operation:
Tuesday – Friday 11am-6pm
Saturday & Sunday 12pm-5pm
Closed Mondays

MISSION AND PURPOSE OF THE GALLERY:

* Provide an accessible, public setting for citizens of Charleston and visitors to the City to experience contemporary fine art.

* Create a contemporary visual arts center to exhibit work of local, regional, national, international professional artists of our time.

* The programming of the exhibition space is ever changing, but focuses on providing an outlet for exposing the public to, and educating the public about, artists and art that is not currently part of the overall Charleston art landscape. The gallery should permit spontaneous adjustments to exhibitions so a fresh, creative environment is achieved.

* The gallery, a venue for work that is new, vital, and innovative, focuses on broadening the Charleston art outlook. This gallery does for fine arts in Charleston what Spoleto Festival USA and Piccolo Spoleto have achieved for performing arts.

GOVERNANCE AND PROGRAMMING:

The gallery is owned by the City of Charleston and operated by the Office of Cultural Affairs. The Mayor appoints a nine-member Gallery Advisory Board with representation from the following segments of the community:

* Art and Culture: five members from the Gibbes Museum of Art, College of Charleston School of the Arts, South Carolina Arts Commission and two at-large individuals who are artists
* Business Community: two members
* Community Affairs: two members

Purpose of the Advisory Board is to assist the Office of Cultural Affairs with developing policies, providing input on the gallery’s programs and exhibitions, and connecting the facility to the broader arts and cultural community in the state and the region.

Six to eight exhibitions are presented each year in the City Gallery at Waterfront Park. Please visit the Arts in Charleston calendar for information on specific dates and times of each exhibit.
