UPDATE! - New Flashers for the West Ashley Greenway
West Ashley Greenway
Oct 25, 2009
A grant from Safe Kids Trident Area will allow for the installation of four new solar powered flashing signs on Farmfield Avenue and Markfield Drive to improve the permanent walking conditions for child and adult pedestrians in the West Ashley community. The City of Charleston Department of Traffic and Transportation was part of a task force organized by MUSC which successfully applied for a grant supplied by FedEx for the Safe Kids Trident Area program. This grant is intended to improve the walking environment and ensure safety for all pedestrians, particularly children. Money from this grant will allow for the installation of four new solar powered flashing signs on Farmfield Avenue and Markfield Drive to improve the permanent walking conditions for child and adult pedestrians in the West Ashley community.
UPDATE!
On October 7, 2009 the flashing pedestrian signals for the West Ashley Greenway at Farmfield Avenue and Markfield Drive were officially unveiled at a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. and several community leaders, neighbors, and local school children.
The Department of Traffic and Transportation is excited about these improvements to the safety of the West Ashley Greenway. We would like to thank Safe Kids Trident Area, FedEx, and everyone who worked hard to make these improvements a reality.
