Most Recent Charrette: Johns Island Community Plan

The City of Charleston is undertaking a major planning process for the urbanized area of Johns Island. The result of the process will be a Johns Island Community Plan that makes recommendations on land use, transportation, housing, parks, economic development, and urban design.

The process includes all stakeholders of such as plan; especially the residents, business owners and property owners on Johns Island. The first public meeting included a presentation by City Planning staff and traffic engineering consultants. Click on the link below to view the initial presentation.

On April 17, after spending a week gathering input from the public and developing a draft set of plan recommendations, City staff presented an outline of the plan at an open forum on Johns Island. Click the link below to view the draft plan recommendations.

On August 15, the Draft Johns Isalnd Plan was presented to the Planning Commission. A month-long review period will culminate with a public hearing at the regular Planning Commission meeting on September 19, 5pm. At the is meeting, the public will have the opportunity to comment before the commission makes a recommendation.

The next step will involve taking the Planning Commission recommendation to City Council for further public comment and ultimately work toward adoption of the plan by the City.
