Therapeutic Recreation
City of Charleston
Unified Sports is a program developed to combine equal numbers of athletes and peer athletes with and without disabilities on a team for meaningful training and competition. The program dramatically increases inclusion in the community by helping to break down the barriers that have historically kept people with and without disabilities apart. Teams are constructed in a way to provide training and competition opportunities that meaningfully challenge all athletes, and lead to improved self-esteem, equal status with peers and new friendships.

Volunteer Opportunities
Unified Sports - Coaches needed for all sports. Coaches will help athletes ages 5-adult with various types of disabilities and their partner athletes (without a disability) learn to play together on the same team. Volunteers will teach them the basic rules of the game, friendly competition and to have fun! No experience in sports necessary, just a willingness to make a difference in the lives of these great athletes! For more information, please contact Shelli Davis at 769-8284.
Sponsorships
Your sponsorship offsets the cost of administering our therapeutic programs with money going toward the purchase of equipment, uniforms, officials, and Special Olympic competitions. Your sponsorship enables the Recreation Department to provide programs for this special community and their peers. Your sponsorship entitles you to the following: Company logo on the front of the uniform, preference of color for uniform, sponsorship picture plaque and most importantly name recognition to hundreds of family, friends and the general public. For more information, please contact Shelli Davis at 769-8284.
