The City of Charleston Department of Recreation offers a diverse array of programs, sports, and activities for the young and young at heart. Our goal is "to provide an outlet for recreational activities for all that are both educational and fun… where the benefits are endless."
MISSION: To provide positive opportunities through recreation to enhance the quality of life of our citizens.
The Department of Recreation is the benefit of a community that enjoys a high quality of life. The department grew out of concern from parents to provide quality experiences for their children. We continue this tradition today with a commitment to utilizing the wonderful resources offered throughout our beautiful city. This guide gives you a brief listing of the opportunities that we offer. However, there is so much more to enjoy in Charleston through all of our park system. What is not listed in this guide is the opportunity to stroll on the West Ashley Greenway, or bike along the West Ashley Bikeway, or run on the Ashley Riverwalk, or fish at the Brittlebank Park, and the list goes on. Take time to visit a local park and explore a new activity each week that opens another door to the beauty of Charleston and the high quality of life we are afforded each day.
We want to hear from you to know what you like, what you want, and most importantly, how we can better serve you. In Charleston the benefits are endless when it comes to your quality of life – take time to play for the fun of it!
